How do you begin a career in dog grooming when there is no school close. What should I do? Where do I start?

I want to learn dog grooming but there is no schools close to me where I can take a course. On-line courses are offered but I feel it is a hands on learning experience. Where do I start?

Look for a job where they do dog grooming like SuperPetz or Petsmart for example. See if they have on the job training. I wouldn’t go to a independent shop. They are more family owned and want family members working there.

The majority of dog groomers learn the craft while working with another dog groomer. summer is a good time to start because groomers are really busy. Go to a couple of groomers in your area and see if they need some help. Offer to bathe and brush in exchange for some education. The online courses will help but true experience is the best. Good luck.

hey, i had the same problem. i finally went to petsmart and they paid me minimum wage to go to school and become certified.. not the best training.. but theyll give you the basics so that you can go elsewhere and have a more qualified groomer teach you the rest, good luck!
