How much do you pay for dog grooming?

We have a black lab. He’s a big dog, but very easy to groom. He actually LOVES getting wet and all the attention. For a while, I did his grooming. For a while, I was commuting 2 hours and generally didn’t have the time. I was making good money, so the $75 didn’t matter. Now I’m closer to home and the $75 does matter. Calling around, I got prices of $65 to $90. Does this seem high? Maybe I should become a dog groomer, as this seems like easy money.

The reason why is seems so high is bc of the size of your dog. The bigger the dog the more expensive it is. I pay 45 for mine to be groomed.

I would never pay anyone to groom any dog, I have always groomed my own dogs, even when I was showing my poodles. My g/f has a wirehaired mini dach she spends about $40 for to be clipped, scissored and bathed. I do my Lab and Dobe on the driveway summers and the tub in wintertime. Once a week summertime and every other week winter time. I Dremel nails once a week on all 7 dogs. Ears done as needed, weekly on big guys and monthly on the MinPins. If I could make $75 washing, nail clipping and ear cleaning a Lab I sure would. $75 for 30 mins work tops..wow..

In Montana my brother has his St.Bernard groomed it cost them $45 but I would not pay more than $75 if they do it good.

I groom my little Westie Poodle myself. She seems much more comfortable when I do it, and also loves the attention. The only thing I can’t do myself is clip her nails. She has a fit, so I bring her to the vet for that. It’s about $12 for that. You could also check with your vet and see if they offer grooming services. You may want to split the duties by having his nails clipped somewhere else and bathing him yourself.

Is he a purebred lab, just in for a bath and all it includes (cleaning ears, nails, etc)? If so, that is very high. However, if he’s a mix and getting trimmed or clipped it’s not unreasonable.

Grooming seems like easy money, but it’s difficult and messy work. Spend a day at a shop helping out, it’s not as easy as it looks. Lol.

We charge for baths by size. Labs up to 50# are $25. 50-75# are $30 and over 75# are $35. This includes 2 full washings, nails clipped and pads are shaved clean. They are blown dry to remove dead coat. Cologne and bandana.

Easy money? Good luck with that. I occasionally work as a bather for my boss – just bather, mind you – and it takes a hell of alot out of you. Go to http://www.petgroomer.com – see if you still think this is an easy job.

Personally – I don’t take my dogs to the groomer. My Boxers I do myself, and my Springer I take with me to work to use my boss’s clippers. But, yeah, $75 for what I’m assuming is a mere bath and brush? That’s pricey. Shop around some more. Otherwise – just do your dog yourself. It’s a Lab. Not a Bichon or Lhasa Apso.

YES!!!! Over here its around $90 for a large breed dog to be shaved and groomed because of mats! So if your dog doesn’t have mats (which I don’t doubt) then it should only cost around maybe $40 for a full groom (bath, brush, dental, toes). I am changing groomers because my last one charged $50 for just a shave (no mats).
