All pure breds. Mutts are by far the healthiest dogs around. They also make the best pets. :]
Sorry but the truth is all dogs have health problems. There is no dog that has more health problems then the other. It’s just a myth that white dogs have more health issues because you can see more rashes and other problems then on a black dog. The only real way a dog can get sick is from eating chocolate, avacodo, or anything unhealthy! A dog can not go near or eat anything that is bad. The parents can also give health problems to their little pups. Dont beleive me? Try google.com HOPE I COULD HELP!
Irresponsible breeding causes more health issues than just what breed you are dealing with. Proper genetic testing can totally eliminate the chances foo diseases like VWD, and greatly reduces the number of dogs with any given disease.
However, when I was in college to earn my vet tech degree, my favorite professor said, “If you can’t think of ANY breed to put down for a question that asks..’which breed is susceptible to…?’, at least write down cocker spaniel. There’s a 99% chance you will be right!”
So I’d say cocker spaniel.
Mutts. Tee hee.
Ok, joking aside, what you are talking about are “lethal whites.” Being white does not necessarily equal health problems. Look at samoyeds and american eskimo dogs, both of those breeds only come in white, and they are generally healthy.
A lethal white is a bad mix of genetics, like a merle to merle breeding, or dapple to dapple, etc. Lethal whites are often blind and/or deaf, they loose their teeth and often have heart issues.
So google lethal white and base your paper on your information there. Remember, wikipedia is NOT a reliable source for school papers.
I just looked up “what dog breed has the most health problems” and it came up as a list of dog breeds and their conditions. The ones that seemed to have the biggest list were the Pekingese and Beagle.
Pekingese: eye lacerations/infections, eyeball prolapse, eyelid abnormalities, respiratory difficulties, heatstroke, collapsed nostrils, cleft palate, jawbone disorders, spinal disc problems, urinary stones
Beagle: hypothyroidism, Demodectic Mange, umbilical Hernia, epilepsy, eye and eyelid problems, cryptorchidism, dwarfism, hip dysplasia, intervertebral disk disease, luxating patella.
Some albino/white/blue-eyed dogs can have problems, yes, like deafness, blindness, skin problems, etc. However, “white dogs” is not a breed. I don’t know that you’ll be able to find a “source” that can say one breed is 100% more unhealthy than any other, probably too subjective of a question. However, Bulldogs are notoriously plagued with health problems.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
* 4.1 Mitral valve disease
* 4.2 Syringomyelia
* 4.3 Episodic Falling (EF)
* 4.4 Hip dysplasia
* 4.5 Keratoconjunctivitis sicca
* 4.6 Other Eye Disorders
* 4.7 Luxating patella
* 4.8 Primary Secretory Otitis Media
* 4.9 Deafness: Congenital or Progressive
* 4.10 Thrombocytopenia and Macrothrombocytopenia
The beagle and pekingese also are high on the list of health problems.
Large breeds tend to have shorter life spans, often due to hip and elbow displasia or bloat. Undersized dogs(the kind people call “teacups” regular sized toy group dogs) often have health problems related to being so small they are fragile and easily dehydrated. White dogs are more prone to deafness then other dogs. And dogs that are popular are often over bred by people who need not be breeding, resulting in health issues. Any animal bred in a puppy mill or by a BYB is more likely to have health issues then one bred by a reputable breeder.
