I have a mild mannered dog who sits happily in a stand up fenced area; he could easily knock it down but he stay. Yet I want to put up something bigger as a kennel: 10 X 30′. I don’t want to put a major fence in as not necessary. What kind of light fence do you recommend that I could just stake up that size?

chain link.
You can find at most major home improvement store (Home Depot, Menard’s, etc.) kennel pannels that will bolt together. The average price is around $30.00 for a pannel. They usually come in 5 or 6 foot heights and 5, 6, 10 or 12 foot lengths. You will also need a pannel with a door which usually is about an added $10-$15 of a ergular pannel.
These kennel pannels come in different guage wire, chainlink or welded. Which one you choose will depend on the size & breed or your dog. Obviously the bigger the dog the “heavier” you will want to go with the construction of the pannels.
Just a tip to keep in mind…if your dog is a “digger” you may want to purchase enough cinder blocks to line the perimiter of your kennel. All you have to do is dig a trench lay the block end to end cover them back up with dirt then set the kennel over the block.
One big advantage to a bolt together kennel is that if you ever move to a new home you can take it with, if you no longer need it you can take it apart & resell it they are quite light & fairly easy to move.
I recommend something at least as thick as 9 or 10 guage.
Even if your dog isn’t an escape artist, trust me, there will come a day when he decides to try to get out. Even if he doesn’t, other dogs will try to get in, and you don’t want that either.
The cheap wire used in the kennels you buy at Wal-Mart and other places is simply too weak to keep animals inside of their area, and other animals out. I have had 9 week old puppies totally disfigure wire of that thickness and escape.
The lower the gauge, the thicker and stronger the wire. I believe the cheap stuff at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Home Depot, and those other stores is about 11 1/2. That is just not good enough.
You want that fence to be at least 6 feet high, also. But even a 6 foot high fence is an easy obstacle for a determined dog to get over.

Chain link is the best fence for a dog kennel. It’s reasonably priced and it’s easy to put up the stakes and attach the fencing to them. It comes in different heights, and maybe they have a light-duty version, I don’t know. They also make types with square or rectagular openings. It’s the same principal, but probably less sturdy, and I would guess cheaper. I wouldn’t use chicken wire, your dog could get a paw caught in it. Good luck!
